The fire was reported just after 5 p.m. Monday and had eight fire departments responding. (See full story, video and photos here)
G&G Excavating was called in earlier today to spread the contents of the barn so more water could be applied, but WFD officials say those contents – which include hay and straw – will smolder for days.
WFD Chief Mike Brubaker told StaceyPageOnline.com today that the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department is now investigating the cause for the blaze, which is believed to have been started by kids.
Tim Taylor rented the barn from Wade Frauhiger and said at the scene Monday that he had a minimum of $30,000 in hay and straw stored inside. Taylor said he noticed a padlock on the barn had been either cut or pried off on Sunday. He put the lock on the barn after first realizing some problems about three weeks ago with someone getting inside, cutting bales of hay and tossing the hay outside of the barn.
Interviews were said to be conducted this afternoon by KCSD detectives.
